Our 7th Annual Radiothon
We've taken our 7th Annual Radiothon fully online so we can safely raise funds for the Infant/Pediatric Ventilator needed for our Emergency Department at Temiskaming Hospital.
The current Ventilator located in our Emergency Department is over 13-years old, and while it is still very functional, it doesn't have the capabilities to support our infant/pediatric patients. In order to provide critical care services to EVERYBODY that comes through our doors, we are looking to replace our current Ventilator with a Monnal T60 Model which will support the needs of every patient from pediatric to adult.
Please consider donating to our Radiothon to help us reach our goal of raising $35,000 on April 22nd, 2021.
Tune in to CJTT 104.5FM from 9 am to 3 pm to follow our progress during our 7th Annual Radiothon and hear live, on-air updates from our Board of Directors and testimonials from our staff, professional staff and patients.
Thank you to CJTT for all your support of our 7th Annual Radiothon.
Respiratory Therapist Savanna Shows Ventilator
The Ventilator featured in the video above is the Ventilator for our Obstetrical Department which was purchased last year as part of our 2019/2020 Priority Equipment List. We are looking to purchase the same model for our Emergency Department with the funds raised from our Radiothon.
Lucy's Story
In February of last year, the Labonte family experienced a situation no family ever wants to be in. Their daughter Lucy ended up in our Emergency Department, and within four hours at the hospital, Lucy's condition began to worsen. While awaiting transfer to Ottawa for further treatment, the lack of an Infant/Pediatric Ventilator in our Emergency Department posed an obstacle for the health care team in charge of treating Lucy. Watch Lucy's mom Marcy and Dr. Meaghan Alexander share Lucy's story. Thank you to the Labonte family for sharing Lucy's story with us for the 7th Annual Radiothon, and thank you to Dr. Alexander for sharing her story as well.
Testimonials
Rikki Hendrickson
Clinical Nurse Manager
"Having worked a decade in pediatric critical care as a Registered Nurse between pediatric Intensive Care Units and Emergency Departments, I have seen first-hand the importance of proper ventilation support for pediatric patients. Having a Ventilator that caters to all demographics provides our Respiratory Therapists, Physicians and Nursing staff the appropriate tools to care for our community. The new Ventilator we are looking to purchase has innovative technology and specifications that is adaptive to all respiratory environments and has the capacity to treat critical patients from newborns to adults with all the relevant lung safety programming."
Dr. Jean Corbin
Chief of Service, Emergency/Special Care/Father
"I am very excited about the purchase of a new versatile Ventilator for the Emergency Room. This equipment can be used for infants, children and adults in a critical situation. This Ventilator will save lives. Thank you."
Savanna Dessureault
Respiratory Therapist
"The current Ventilator in our Emergency Department does not have infant/pediatric capabilities. A new Ventilator will allow us to provide effective care and service ALL patient populations in our community which is so important when it comes to keeping care close to home. Thank you."
Brooke Hewitt
Registered Nurse/Mom
"As a mom and nurse, having this Ventilator means the best possible care for our little ones if they are experiencing breathing difficulties. As a parent, there is nothing worse than feeling like you can't help your child when they are sick. By contributing to this cause, you can feel sure that you helped to provide the best possible respiratory care to all members of our community."
Rebecca Prefasi
Registered Nurse/Mom
"When I think about a Ventilator for the Emergency Room, I just think it’s such an essential part of good medical care for babies. In our area, you never know with the weather what we could be facing. In an emergency situation, to make sure the staff have what they need to keep a baby, my baby safe, I would hope that we would have the equipment needed at that time. Having a Ventilator here for an infant at Temiskaming Hospital is just a necessity, a really essential safety component and something that would bring a lot of peace of mind and really what is best for the children of this community."
Dr. Ariana Hillman
Physician/Mom
"As the parent of a 13-month old, I never want to imagine the worst, and I want my little one to be safe and protected. The new Ventilator gives me the peace of mind that we have the necessary equipment locally to look after him. This Ventilator can be carefully set to give just the right amount of air to tiny lungs without harming them. It makes a huge difference to me just to know we have this capability in our community. With it, we are prepared for when people are sick and really need it."
Rebecca Ciraco
Registered Nurse/Mom
"As a mother of two young children, it’s comforting to know that with this new equipment we have the capabilities in our community to better stabilize our patients of all ages, from infant to adults. Oftentimes we find ourselves stabilizing infants and children while we wait for transport teams to arrive and of course it’s always weather-pending. This means we could be waiting for prolonged periods of time before our patients are able to go to larger hospitals. This equipment would greatly assist with providing optimal care to our entire patient population-big and small.”
Why Your
Support Matters
In 2016, the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation created our Care Close to Home campaign in order to replace $6.5M worth of aging and outdated equipment at Temiskaming Hospital.
Due to COVID-19, our 5-year campaign has been extended in order to get closer to our goal.
To date, we have raised over $5M and purchase many important pieces of equipment for our hospital including:
Infant Care Beds
Smart Patient Beds
Gastroscope
Infant ECG Machine
Mobile Radiographic System
Pulmonary Function Testing Machine
CT Contrast Injector
and more!
Thank you for your
generosity!
