Stay at Home Gala is presented by Valley First, A Division of First West Credit Union
Join the first-ever Stay At Home Gala online in the Okanagan, March 27th at 6:30pm. Uniting people from all over our community, the one-night event aims to strengthen community efforts that manage the effects of the COVID-19 virus.
Social distancing at its finest, the first-of-its-kind event will host all the familiar elements: dinner (delivered to your door), game-changing speakers, entertainers, musicians, and much more. Don your best, log on, and dine to support the members of our community who have been impacted by the COVID-19 virus.
All proceeds are going to the Community Foundations of the Okanagan, which will direct funds back into the most in need charities from the Okanagan community of your choice.
Where are the funds being directed?
All proceeds from the ticket sales are being directed through the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan back to the communities you register from during checkout.
Which charities are getting the funds?
Given the massive influx of donations happening in the region, by funding through the Foundation allows us to direct funds to the charities that are most in need at that time. Foodbanks, shelters and other charities will get funding where there is the biggest need, life saving elements prioritized first.
Is the food only for Kelowna?
We highly encourage you all to support a local restaurant during this event. Some are offering pickup at their restaurants in your area, or you can always use an online delivery service like Skip the Dishes. Those restaurants are in need of your continued business for keeping staff employed and rent paid.
How can we support local businesses in this time?
Remember, non essential service professionals are all throughout your life and will be in need during this time, it is impacting everyone.
Can we join from outside the Okanagan?
Of Course! This event is open for all who want to join, donations will be directed to the Okanagan Charity Partners. We are planning on running more, if you would like one in your area please reach out to us. info@stayathomegala.com
Keynote Speaker: Lane Merrifield
The newest “dragon” to join CBC’s hit show Dragon’s Den, Lane Merrifield is one of Canada’s leading tech entrepreneurs. He is the founder of Club Penguin, the largest children’s online social network. At age 28, he sold it to Disney for $350 million, and, as their youngest executive vice president, turned it into a billion-dollar brand.
In 2012, Lane returned to his entrepreneurial roots and launched FreshGrade, a learning assessment tool that connects teachers, parents, and students to help personalize and improve learning. It’s now used in 80% of districts across Canada. Lane is also the founder of Wheelhouse, an organization that invests in and supports early-stage tech companies and entrepreneurs through mentorship, access to capital, and connections to global business networks.
Barney Bentall And Dustin Bentall
Barnard Franklin "Barney" Bentall is a Canadian pop/rock singer-songwriter who is most well known for his 1990s-era band, Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts. Their most successful Canadian singles included "Something to Live For", "Life Could Be Worse", "Crime Against Love" and "Come Back to Me".
Dustin Bentall hails from Vancouver. While music was part of his DNA, there’s also the learned part. He sounds older than his years because his songs speak with wisdom about his youthful experiments with immortality. The narcotic cowboy thing you hear in Dustin’s music comes from his love for Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers and the Byrds with their so--‐called ‘Cosmic American Music.’ That is, not to mention the time he has spent in the saddle ropin’ and branding steers on the ranch.
