Trellis strives to empower global collective impact, meaning we focus on long-term sustainable outcomes. We are passionate about giving the people solving the world’s problems better tools on a global scale. Collectively, we can do more to make a lasting and impacting change within our communities and on a global scale.

Within our team at Trellis, we are working towards building knowledge about Indigenous peoples and the land that we work on. We strive to create an equitable workplace where we stand for truth and reconciliation and build a culture of allyship. We want to strengthen the community by learning and understanding our shared history so that we can move towards a more respectful future.

Trellis is committed to learning, reconciliation, and participation in decolonizing practices. We acknowledge that these learnings take us outside our comfort zone, and we lean into the productive discomfort.

  • In December 2020 we attended a land acknowledgements Zoom session with IndigenEYES. We learned about the names of the Indigenous territories we work and live on, talked about what “place” means to each of us, did some activities that helped us better connect to and understand the term “place”, and shared the activities we enjoy doing on the land.
  • In our team meeting, we had a brainstorming session on what “place” means to us so we can better understand and respect the land we work on as well as understand what “place” means to each other.
  • In June 2021 on National Indigenous Peoples Day our team visited Indigenous museums. The team in Kelowna went to Sncewips Heritage Museum tour (West Kelowna) and our remote team visited Tsuut’ina Nation Culture/Museum (Calgary region) and Ktunaxa Interpretive Centre (Cranbrook).
  • On September 30, 2021, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our team attended a “Canadian History Through an Indigenous Lens” webinar. The session was incredibly informative, eye-opening and unsettling. Afterwards, our team discussed what the most surprising things were that they learned from the session. It was a long list. Educational sessions like this are a step towards allyship and reconciliation, as we open our minds to different perspectives, which helps us to better understand the past, the present and work together towards a better future.

Here is what “place” currently means to us. It is a journey that we are always going to be on, but we wanted to start somewhere. “Place” to Trellis means:

The physical unceded territories that we work from. Our team lives and works on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the following peoples:

  • Syilx
  • Lekwungen/Songhees
  • Esquimalt
  • WSÁNEĆ
  • Blackfoot
  • Siksika
  • Piikani
  • Kainai
  • Tsuut’ina
  • Stoney Nakoda
  • Cree
  • Saulteaux
  • Dakota
  • Nakota
  • Lakota
  • Métis
  • Ktunaxa

Our connection to the land and earth, including how we relate to it and treat it. Here are some ways our team relates to Place.

“To me, Place means home and neighbourhood. It’s familiar, where I live and belong, where I’m comfortable and spend my time.” – Jackie

Place to me means that everywhere is somebody’s or something’s home and should always be respected.” – Andrew

“To me, Place represents an emotion or memory tied to a physical location or community.” – Emily

Most of all, “place” and our relationship with the land is a work in progress. We are working with our local Indigenous peoples to understand, engage and listen. Take action by bringing awareness of our land to our networks and trying to lead by example, always evolving and improving.

Kelowna BC – October 19 2021: Trellis Social Enterprise Inc. (trellis.org), has officially been approved as a Verified Electronic Raffle Provider in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon and PEI. As an all-in-one fundraising software platform, this added feature further simplifies fundraising for its charities and organizations, making it easier than ever to raise funds for their cause.

To kick off the use of Trellis’ new raffle product, the iconic Bright Nights 50/50, put on by the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, will be powered by Trellis. The Bright Nights 50/50 is a fundraising extension of the beloved Bright Nights in Stanley Park, which raises money for burn survivors across BC. “Last year, our 50/50 jackpot reached more than $500k. With an ambitious goal of reaching a $1 million dollar jackpot, we are eager to use Trellis’ new online raffle system to create a more customized, user-friendly experience, and make the raffle bigger and better than last year,” says Nicole Clark, Director of Communications for the Burn Fund.

Justin Goodhew, Founder and CEO of Trellis.org and his team have worked tirelessly to become a raffle provider this year, and the response from BC organizations since the announcement has been incredibly positive. “Adding raffles to Trellis will bring immense value for the organizations we support. Especially since the pandemic, fundraising events have all changed and many cancelled, organizations are struggling more than ever to support those they serve.” Justin states. “However, with the ability to simply connect with Trellis, get guidance and support on raffle licensing, and launch your raffle in minutes, charities are seeing light at the end of this tunnel” he adds.

And, as an all-in-one fundraising platform, charities are taking advantage of the additional features Trellis offers beyond raffles, including tickets, donations, auctions, live streaming and selling items. “The simple act of asking donors to add a donation when buying raffle tickets during checkout alone, can drive more funds for your cause, and help you secure the necessary funds you need. And it’s remarkably easy to set up.” says Goodhew.

In the coming months, stay tuned for more updates on which provinces Trellis is approved in or connect with our team at trellis.org/raffles.

As the world changes, fundraising for charities and organizations continues to be uncertain. But with this new development, fundraising just got simpler and together we can create global collective impact empowered by Trellis.

Kelowna, BC – July 16, 2021: Trellis Social Enterprise Inc. (trellis.org) a charitable events software platform based in Kelowna, BC has just confirmed their acquisition of Echolotto Inc. (echolotto.com), a charity raffle provider from  Saskatchewan.

Trellis and Echolotto both serve charities. Charities need one place to sell tickets, run auctions, process donations and create raffles. This acquisition will make Trellis the first software in Canada that can truly do it all for fundraising events. With this new announcement, together they will become the first approved raffle provider to also offer other revenue drivers for charities starting in Saskatchewan. Not only will this increase revenue potential for Trellis, but more importantly time saved for both Trellis and Echolotto customers.

“This acquisition allows Trellis to gain market share, technology and expertise in the charity raffle & 50/50 space as we expand this feature across Canada,” says founder and CEO Justin Goodhew. Paul Burch, co-founder and CEO of Echolotto says, “this allows our raffle customers to now sell tickets, process donations and also run silent and live auctions on top of running their raffles. It’s the start of an incredibly exciting new phase.”

About Trellis:

Trellis is an all-in-one event fundraising platform that allows charities, foundations and non-profit organizations to grow their fundraising and exceed their goals. Trellis aims to become the revenue generation platform for change to further their mission of empowering global collective impact.

About Echolotto:

Echolotto provides a raffle ticketing platform for charities and non-profit organizations. Echolotto supports these organizations so they can continue to perform community enhancing initiatives.

More details:

This acquisition allows Trellis to increase their customers, product offering and team as they prepare for a big fall of charity events.  Paul Burch, the CEO and Founder of Echolotto will be joining the Trellis team, providing them with his unique expertise. After starting Echolotto five years ago, Paul has built valuable partnerships with raffle regulators and charities. This vital expertise will be instrumental to Trellis’ expansion of their raffle feature across Canada.

All of this allows Trellis to further support their existing customers, new customers and future customers as they grow into the raffle space. This acquisition only furthers Trellis’ goal of creating impact by supporting organizations to drive more revenue to their causes so they can create more positive change.

As the world changes, fundraising for charities and organizations continues to be uncertain. But with this new partnership, fundraising just got simpler and together we can create global collective impact empowered by Trellis.

Kelowna, BC. March 20, 2020

The Trellis Social Enterprise Inc. Sprout a Fundraiser challenge has officially wrapped up, and the winner, the Central Okanagan Food Bank, has received a $10,000 donation during what has become a very critical time.

The donation was the first place prize donated by The Clique Group Ltd. and won based on the third-party fundraising event, The 2nd Annual Fork and Spoon Gala hosted by Cody Pollard. The gala brought 14 Okanagan chefs and three local bartenders together to create a nine-course meal using ingredients found in the kitchen of the local food bank this past fall.

“The need in our food bank right now is serious and with this donation, we now are able to serve more people during what has been an extremely challenging situation for many. We are beyond grateful for Cody, The Clique Group, and Trellis for putting this all together,” says Tammie Watson, Chief Development Officer of Central Okanagan Food Bank. “Speaking on behalf of charities, we are so grateful whenever third-party champions step forward to run fundraising events and donation campaigns for our causes. It is so inspiring to know others care about our organization and appreciate the work that we, as charitable professionals, do day-in and day-out.” Tammie adds.

The Clique Group, is thankful to be able to give back in this way. “Not everybody is in a position to give, especially at a time like this. For those of us that can, we have a responsibility to do so,” says Dallas Chelick, Co-Founder and CEO of The Clique Group.

Two other local charities won prizes too through the Sprout a Fundraiser challenge. The Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society won a mentoring session with Purppl, a local social enterprise accelerator, based on the fundraising initiatives of Amal Alhuwayshil’s #speakout support campaign. While The Bridge Youth and Family Services won three-month access to Grant Connect, the grant-seeking platform of national nonprofit Imagine Canada, based on the Poses for a Purpose fundraiser held by Roz Huber. These prizes will offer additional support to both organizations, beyond the amazing work done by these third-party champions.

Additionally, this challenge hosted by Trellis Social Enterprise would not have been possible without the support of sponsors, The Clique Group, Purppl, Imagine Canada, Loop Digital and Kelowna Foundation.

For non-profit organizations, having third-party champions step forward and raise money on their behalf is critical to ensuring their success. With the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the need is greater than ever as these organizations look to support even more individuals with higher safety, people, and financial restraints. As the nature of COVID-19 continues to evolve, consider the role you can play, and how you can support your local community.

Kelowna, BC – March 6 2020: Finalists for the Trellis Sprout a Fundraiser challenge have been announced.

After fundraising throughout late 2019, 25 champions raised almost $50,000 for local causes.

From Halloween parties, open mic nights, fitness classes and gala dinners; local businesses and individuals have gathered the community around their chosen causes. Trellis is now excited to announce the six finalists, one of these six will win $10,000 in cash for their charity.

Founder and CEO of Trellis, Justin Goodhew says the trellis team is continually inspired by champions in the community. “We are blown away watching our community champions step up and raise money for the causes closest to their hearts. It’s inspiring watching others give back so selflessly. When we launched this challenge, we had no idea what the response would be, and this is far more than we could’ve imagined. As a team, this has really cemented why we’re doing the work we do, and further ignites our passion.” says Goodhew.

These six finalists will have a chance to win 1 of 3 prizes.

The grand prize, $10,000 in cash towards the winning charity has been donated by The Clique Group. “Not everyone is in a position to give. Those of us who are, have a responsibility to do so,” says CEO and Co-Founder Dallas Chelick. “The opportunity to partner with Trellis on this challenge has allowed us to increase the impact of our $10,000. It’s led to passionate individuals raising $50,000 in a few short months”. Local social enterprise Purppl was also keen to donate a prize, registration to their upcoming workshop and mentoring hours with their team. Finally, Imagine Canada, has donated three months worth of access to Grant Connect, the grantseeking platform of national nonprofit Imagine Canada.

Next, the Sprout a Fundraiser judging committee will be meeting to determine the 3 winners. The judging committee includes Brea Lake of Accelerate Okanagan, Kyleen Myrah professor at Okanagan College, Andrew Greer of Purppl, Dallas Chelick and Jordan Kerata of The Clique Group, and Erin Welk of Urban Systems. The winners will be announced on March 19th.

Captain America, Catwoman, Daredevil, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, or the infamous Superman. They all have something in common (well besides their superhero costumes). They do what others won’t do, or can’t do. They push limits, stretch boundaries, knock down walls, and show confidence, courage, and are motivated to make a change for what they believe in.

Hey, you know who else we think are superheroes? Our trellis champions. They might not wear the same kinda costumes, but…

They show up, push limits, stretch boundaries, and knock down walls (mostly just figuratively) for the causes they care about. They are confident, courageous, and passionate about the organizations they support. And guess what, we think you can be a superhero too.

And so, to get you started, we’re giving you a how-to guide to becoming a superhero too. And it’s as easy as 1-2-3! Because at trellis, we want to help you raise money for a cause you care about and give back to those in your community without the headache.

  1. Find a cause you care about! Not based in your community? No worries, we work with registered charities across Canada (and rumour has it that may be expanding soon!)
  2. Start a fundraiser on trellis! Create an event page or donation campaign in minutes and raise money for your favourite cause! From galas to golf tournaments, and car washes to theatre shows, we’ve seen it all and can help you create a fundraiser that raises more money today!
  3. Launch your fundraiser and watch the funds come in! This is the best part! All your hard work starts to pay off as you raise more money than you imagined for your favourite cause. You can set up your chosen organization to receive these funds directly, and send out tax receipts automatically (making you even more of a superhero in the eyes our your charity partner too).

And that’s it! See we told you it’s easy.

We’re passionate about helping organizations flourish. Whether it’s through empowering champions to raise more for the causes they care about or working directly with local organizations, we strive to help you increase your fundraising through smarter techniques.

So what do you say? Are you ready to be a superhero?

PS. Amazon has some great superhero capes right now that you can buy here.

Kelowna, BC – December 16 2019: John Perlinger, founder of Chartiables.com, created a large charcoal portrait of NHL hockey players Carey Price and Shea Weber celebrating at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. This art piece has now been turned into prints and is being sold to raise money for local charity Mamas for Mamas. You can purchase the prints here on Trellis.

These much loved Montreal Canadien players who have strong ties to Kelowna are helping raise money for local charity Mamas for Mamas this holiday season.

As an art school drop-out, Perlinger had the idea to create a charcoal drawing and capture it on video. He then sent it to Montreal, where Price and Weber graciously signed and sent it back.

To sell the prints, Perlinger is using local startup Trellis Social Enterprise Inc. “I was so excited to partner with Trellis for this project. They are passionate about giving back and raising funds for local organizations so the alignment was perfect” states John. Through Trellis, Perlinger is selling these prints around the world, with buyers even located in Switzerland.

Perlinger says he picked Mamas for Mamas to receive the donations because “Coming from a family of five kids, I often felt scarcity as a child and know how challenging the holidays can be for single parents. And now as a parent myself, I am so thankful to be able to give back to Mamas for Mamas and support the incredible work that they do in the community”. You can find the prints on Trellis here.

Perlinger launched his online charity site, Charitables back in the fall and describes it as a marketplace where users can buy and sell items, giving all proceeds from the sales to their chosen charity. As he starts out, he’ll be selling these prints to raise money for Mamas for Mamas and help get Charitables off the ground.

For this project, he’s using Trellis, a local startup founded by Justin Goodhew right here in the Okanagan. Trellis is a social enterprise connecting people with simple solutions to champion causes they are passionate about. Through the platform, users can start an event or fundraiser for charity within minutes, raise more funds for their causes, and automate the administrative side of fundraising. Founded in 2018, Trellis is now a team of 10 people, bringing philanthropy into the modern age, growing events and community initiatives into a greater force for social good.
